The Italian-Tunisian Cross-border cooperation Program (CBC) supported by the EU, in the framework of the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI, involves five provinces from Sicily (Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Ragusa, Siracusa, Trapani) and six Tunisian coastal regions (Governorates of Ariana, Beja, Ben Arous, Bizerte, Jendouba, Manouba, Nabeul, Tunis). The main goal of the program is to promote the economic, social, institutional and cultural integration between neighbouring countries in this part of the Mediterranean. During the first edition of the program, the program supported 31 projects taking place around three priorities: Priority 1: Development and regional integration, with a target on four measures concerning the development and integration of economic sectors (agroindustrial supply chain, fishing), the improvement of the tourism offer through the enhancement of the traditions and culture of the territory in Sicily and in Tunisia, promotion of goods flow, valuation of migration and financial flows, promoting research and innovation (technological parks, innovation in production processes, new information and communications technology) and institutional cooperation to promote regional development. Priority 2: Promotion of sustainable development with a specific interest in the effective management of natural resources (agriculture, fishing), recovery of the natural and cultural heritage and the development of renewable energies. Priority 3: Cultural and scientific cooperation, and support to the associative fabric, in particular by supporting cooperation at association level, cultural and scientific cooperation and training and youth and student exchanges.
